"There's something wrong with this place." Seems to be a bit of an understatement.
This new trailer for The Evil Within which was released today has got me more than excited for this game. This game to me seems like a marriage between Silent Hill and Resident Evil, and seeing as those are two of my favorite video games series (minus RE5 and RE6) of all time. Let alone it is being made by Shinji Mikami, who is the father of Resident Evil.
Now let me start out by saying that this game is exactly my cup of tea. I love blood, gore, and watching twisted people, monsters, and psychopaths tearing people apart.(Of course I don't want them to tear me apart though.) And you know a bit of psychological horror never hurts, which this game seems like it will have plenty of it. It looks like it will have its intense moments, and it might actually be able to keep me up at night which really hasn't happened since Silent Hill 2 and 3, as well as a handful of indie horror games, but those are a different story.
The fact that this game seems to play very similarly to RE4, is also an amazing thing I think since the control scheme from RE4 was one of my favorites in a survival horror game. (Here is hoping that they bring back the inventory system from it.) I think there are alot of similarities between this and RE4, a chainsaw wielding enemy trying to cut you up like a butcher within the first moments of the game? While I don't really think of that as original, nor do I think a few other things are original. (Perth House shootout I am looking at you.) I think the game will have enough suspense and horror to sear itself deep into my mind, and besides the house shootout in RE4 is one of my favorite moments, why not reincorporate it? I mean it will be quite a different feeling being alone in a house instead of with Luis, and being able to set traps will definitely be a nice addition, at least I think it will.
The enemy design in this game also reeks of Resident Evil. Zombies, an enemy with a box-head, and some kind of long-armed monster that just want to smash you. Though the long-armed one makes me think more of Silent Hill, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
I have to say, this is not a situation I want to end up in.
It is my hope that this game will breathe a new life into the survival horror genre for gamers, seeing as it has been going downhill for quite some time now. Shinji Mikami make us proud!
Literally this game will force you to take a blood bath.
So I'm curious, if are a survival horror veteran or even someone who just has some sort of interest in The Evil Within, what do you think about this game so far? Does it look like it might scare you a bit? Because I have a feeling it will finally be the game I have been waiting for since Resident Evil 4.
